May 7th-Salalah, Oman

Salalah is home to the summer palace of the Sultan...beginning in June through November this part of arid Oman catches the edges of the monsoon traveling towards India, making its usual barren mountains lush and green. It is odd to see such beautiful beaches unused. There is a thriving fishing industry. Twice a year migrations of sardines are so plentiful that one can stand in waist deep water and catch them by hand. Sardines are not eaten here, only considered food for the animals.

We visited the tomb of Mohammed's blood relative prophet who brought Islam to this area of the Arabian Peninsula. This is the family tree within his tomb.

All in all, not a whole heck of alot here, but you can imagine how thirsty one gets in Ali Baba country!
