Manila continued....

We were dumb-founded by the "Hypermarket" grocery and beyond. Every 15 minutes a bell rang, all personnel dropped what they were doing, clapped 3 times and in unison said: "Happy to Serve You!" We discovered that an expected wage starts at a little less than $5 US a DAY. There are at least 20 people doing things in every department (not just standing around). Everything inside is super clean and tidy and well stocked.

The Manila Hotel, the slightly weathered "grand dame" of hotels, and reputed as General MacArthur's war headquarters, still offers a wonderful spa experience with 1 1/2 hour massages given by trained nurses/physiotherapists for$50 and graciously concluded with a tray of tea, fresh fruit and yogurt with honey.
